Trump sues BBC for $10b over Jan 6 fake news

Trump sues BBC for USD $10B for defamation and election interference

U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a USD $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC, accusing the British state broadcaster of manipulating footage to falsely portray him as inciting violence during the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.

The lawsuit, filed this week in federal court in Miami, centres on a 2024 Panorama documentary that aired days before last year’s US presidential election. Trump alleges the programme deceptively edited his speech on January 6 by splicing together remarks made nearly an hour apart and pairing them with footage of demonstrators moving toward the Capitol before he had begun speaking.

According to the filing, the editing created the false impression that Trump directly encouraged violent action. Trump told reporters the broadcaster had attributed words to him that he never said, describing the portrayal as deliberately misleading.

The BBC acknowledged last month that the editing was flawed and said it gave a “mistaken impression” of Trump’s remarks. BBC chairman Samir Shah issued a formal apology, expressed regret directly to Trump, and confirmed the segment would not be rebroadcast.

Trump’s legal action claims the documentary amounted to election interference and seeks $5 billion in defamation damages, plus a further $5 billion under Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. His legal team alleges the editing was intentional and politically motivated.

The BBC has declined further comment, but previously said it disputes the claims and intends to defend the case in court, maintaining there is “no legal basis” for the lawsuit.

  1. How can the BBC call a wilfull action a “mistaken impression”. The BBC is not taking ownership of their false news.

Long as it been since mainstream media has been independent news. What an absolute clown show. Some one or some group is behind this. My question is who?
