Queensland Police have charged two inmates with murder following the death of convicted child sex offender Shannon Norgate, who died weeks after an alleged assault inside a correctional facility.
Norgate, 28, was found unresponsive at Maryborough Correctional Centre on November 26, 2025, and was rushed to Hervey Bay Hospital, where he later died on December 1.
Investigators allege he suffered fatal injuries during an altercation in custody.
A joint investigation by the Corrective Services Investigation Unit and Maryborough detectives has now resulted in two men, aged 29 and 31, being charged with murder. They are scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Norgate had an extensive criminal history involving child sexual offences, including assaults committed while impersonating a security guard, and was serving time after being convicted of grooming a 12-year-old.
My heart bleed’s custard for him.
