Scottish Labour MP Joani Reid has defended her husband after three men were arrested in London and Wales on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service linked to China under the UK’s National Security Act.

Police have not named the suspects, though one is understood to be Reid’s husband, David Taylor.

Reid said she had never seen anything to suggest her husband had broken the law and stressed she and her children were not involved in the investigation.

“I have never seen anything that would lead me to suspect my husband has broken any law,” she said, adding that she had no role in his business activities and had never engaged with Chinese officials or raised China-related matters in Parliament.

The arrests come amid heightened concern over foreign interference in the UK, with authorities warning of increased national security investigations and ministers pledging strong action if Chinese espionage is confirmed.
