Zelensky cancels November ‘Peace Summit’

Ukraine peace summit news

Ukraine has announced the cancellation of a planned peace summit scheduled for November, aimed at discussing an end to the conflict with Russia.

Senior aide to President Vladimir Zelensky, Darya Zarivna, confirmed that there are currently no plans to hold the second summit, which had been intended to build on the previous peace conference held in June at Luzerne, Switzerland.

That event, which focused on Zelensky’s ten-point “peace formula” and excluded Russia, was widely seen as unsuccessful and labelled ‘delusional’ by Russia.

Despite the cancellation, Zarivna stated that work continues on thematic conferences dedicated to each point of Zelensky’s plan, with the final one, addressing humanitarian concerns, set to take place in Canada at the end of October.

While Ukraine had hoped to push forward with discussions during the summit, Moscow has rejected the “peace formula” and dismissed any participation in future talks. Additionally, a scheduled meeting between Zelensky and President Joe Biden in Germany this week has been cancelled due to Biden’s altered travel plans in response to Hurricane Milton.
