Zelensky demands more Western funding

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has complained that Western financial and military support is still insufficient, saying Ukraine lacks the money needed to produce enough weapons, air defence systems and drones despite massive aid packages already approved.

In a Telegram post, Zelensky said constant funding shortages were undermining Ukraine’s ability to strengthen its position ahead of any negotiations, adding that stronger backing from Europe and the United States was essential.

His remarks come after the European Union approved a major loan package for 2026 and 2027 aimed at supporting Ukraine’s economy, while international estimates suggest Kiev will need far more to cover deep budget deficits.

The situation is compounded by corruption concerns and warnings from Zelensky’s advisers that Ukraine cannot afford to hold elections under current financial pressures, drawing criticism from Moscow, which claims Kiev is seeking ever greater Western funding at the expense of ordinary taxpayers and citizens.
