Former Australian rugby star Rocky Elsom has been sentenced to five years in prison by a French court following charges of forgery and misuse of corporate assets, as reported by Midi Olympique.
The 41-year-old 75-cap veteran, who served as president of Racing Club Narbonnais (RCN) between 2015 and 2016, left the club in financial disarray, contributing to its relegation to French rugby’s Federal 1 grade.
During his time with the club, Elsom allegedly embezzled close to NZ$1.25 million for personal gain and to benefit his close circle of players.
An international arrest warrant was issued after Elsom failed to appear for his trial in Narbonne.
