Charles plans to open venue for events at Balmoral

King Charles has submitted plans to convert a building on the Balmoral Castle estate into a venue for hosting events such as weddings, dinners, and live performances.

The proposal, filed with Aberdeenshire Council, seeks approval to transform the Queen’s Building, originally built in the 1980s as staff quarters, into a space capable of accommodating up to 277 guests, with an additional outdoor patio for 144 more.

The application includes provisions for live performances and the serving of alcohol until after midnight, with assurances that music would remain at a low level to avoid disturbances.

Although the estate has long had a licence to host weddings and events, Balmoral officials have stated there are no current plans to hold commercial weddings.

This initiative is the latest in a series of efforts by the British king to open the Balmoral estate to the public, following the launch of extensive public tours of the castle in 2023, which quickly sold out.

Balmoral has been a royal family residence for nearly 200 years.
