Several Australians are in critical condition following a suspected alcohol poisoning incident at the Warwick Resort on Fiji’s Coral Coast.

Seven guests reportedly fell ill after consuming an alcoholic cocktail at the resort bar, experiencing symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and neurological distress.

Four of the affected individuals are Australian citizens, and two of the group were rushed to Lautoka Hospital due to the severity of their symptoms.

The incident has prompted an investigation by the Fijian Ministry of Health, with health inspectors working to identify additional victims and determine the cause.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is assisting two families affected by the incident and has updated its travel advisory for Fiji. The revised advice warns travelers about the risks of drink spiking and methanol poisoning, urging caution with alcoholic beverages.

This incident comes weeks after two Australian teenagers were among six fatalities in a suspected methanol poisoning event in Laos, raising concerns about the safety of alcoholic drinks in popular tourist destinations.
