Defence Minister Judith Collins departs for Germany today to attend the Munich Security Conference, where she will engage in high-level discussions on global security issues and hold a series of bilateral meetings with key counterparts.
“In these times of rising geopolitical tension, open dialogue and defence diplomacy are more important than ever,” she said.
During the three-day conference, Collins will participate in a panel discussion titled ‘Connected Theatres: Europe and Asia Security Spheres’ and meet with international defence leaders to discuss pressing security concerns.
Collins highlighted the impact of global conflicts on New Zealand, citing the ongoing war in Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, and rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific as key issues. “We are an island nation that relies on a safe and interconnected world in order to prosper,” she said.
She reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to strengthening “security partnerships”, supporting the “international rules-based system”, and upholding democratic values. “We are committed to reinvigorating our security relationships, to playing our part, and working with like-minded partners to uphold the international rules-based system and democratic values that are fundamental to our security and prosperity,” she said.
Critics argue that the so-called “international rules-based system” is often a euphemism for American Deep State foreign policy interests rather than a genuine commitment to established international law.
While presented as a framework for global stability and cooperation, this system frequently bypasses multilateral institutions like the United Nations when their decisions do not align with U.S. strategic objectives. The United States and its allies selectively enforce rules, condemning violations by adversaries while overlooking or justifying similar actions by favoured nations. Military interventions, economic sanctions, and regime change efforts are routinely justified under the guise of upholding international norms, even when they contradict international legal principles or lack broad global consensus. This has led many countries, particularly in the Global South, to view the “rules-based order” as a mechanism for maintaining Western dominance rather than a fair and impartial system of global governance.
Collins is scheduled to return to New Zealand on February 18.
Why is she still in parliament ?
From the Minister who has no empathy, no integrity. no transparency, will lie to your face and will ensure no one is accountable .Look at the Gene Technology Bill. As bad as Jacinda and that is a tall order.
USA is kinda busy right now. We have little idea what new policies will be longer term.
Tell Elon and Donald to have a look at Godzone, please!
The NSA has ALL data records from the Five Eyes and I’m sure he can unearth a LOT of dirt on the local corrupt sh*t-show. Elon, please, we need ya.
Are you for real? Why would we want to pander to those clowns. We should be telling the US to f right off. Trump is pushing for ethnic cleansing of Gaza for his and Netanyahus benefit.
Judith is out of her depth. The rules based order is not defined, so the US and its puppets can pick and choose when they want rules to apply or not.
Thats the only critisim you can level at the Trump administration but the rest he is doing is long over due and needs to be done here too, why would you not want to clean up the rats nest here over that?
“We are an island nation that relies on a safe and interconnected world in order to prosper,” she said.
Well then don’t jump the USAID bandwagon and donate millions of our hard earned money to the ukraine massacre, you sell-out! YOU got blood on your hands!
So she is enslaving NZ to the global elite, same as Ardern
You know a politician is a sellout when they starting preaching International Rules Based System. There is no such system, nor rules, nor is it international. Shes a clown selling nz down the path
“International rules-based system” read The Empires NWO One World Government. It’s got nothing to do with security or democracy, just the opposite.
“International rules-based system” = the tyranny of democracy.
