Tiger Woods accepts reckless driving deal

Golf legend Tiger Woods has agreed not to contest a reckless driving charge under a plea deal that reduces the original driving-under-the-influence allegation stemming from a rollover crash in Florida.

The 50-year-old accepted a five-year driving licence suspension and a $1,000 fine following the March incident in Martin County, in which his vehicle struck a truck and overturned, although nobody was injured.

Woods passed a breathalyser test but declined further drug screening, while authorities later said two hydrocodone pills were found in his pocket. Body-camera footage showed Woods telling officers he had looked at his phone immediately before the collision and acknowledging that he had taken prescription medication earlier that morning.

Florida State Attorney Thomas Bakkedahl said prosecutors had sought to treat Woods like any other defendant, declaring he was “completely confident and comfortable” with the outcome. Woods previously said he was stepping away to undergo treatment and focus on his health and recovery.
