Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has reaffirmed his confidence in Bruno Fernandes, insisting the Portuguese midfielder remains fully committed to the club and will retain the captaincy.
Fernandes was benched for Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth after publicly questioning the tactics employed during United’s 4-1 Champions League loss to Como. The pair subsequently held talks at Carrington on Tuesday to resolve their differences, with Carrick dismissing suggestions of any lasting dispute.
Despite mounting pressure following the Bournemouth defeat, Carrick will lead United into Saturday’s clash with Chelsea, although Fernandes’ place in the starting eleven remains uncertain.
Carrick stressed that the midfielder’s leadership and importance to the squad were unchanged, describing his omission against Bournemouth as a decision specific to that match.
