Daily Telegraph New Zealand (DTNZ) has opened a GETTR account.
GETTR is a new social media app, founded by Jason Miller, a former aide to President Donald Trump.
While Wikipedia describes GETTR as ‘targeted to American conservatives’, our decision to open an account on the platform is not motivated by any political bias. DTNZ is apolitical – it doesn’t matter if politicians are left or right wing, we will hold them to account. It just so happens that in the current environment it’s right wing politicians and commentators that are being ‘cancelled’ and censored by legacy social media and Big Tech, which is why they are migrating to new platforms like GETTR. The same cancel culture and censorship will happen to liberals and those on the left one day.
On its homepage, GETTR says it is:
a brand new social media platform founded on the principle of the free speech, independent thought and rejecting political censorship and “cancel culture.”
These important principles apply for everyone, regardless of colour, creed and political preferences.
Legacy social media is still important for our strategies moving forward and DTNZ will continue to operate an account with Twitter and will open accounts with other legacy platforms over coming weeks.
