The Enfield Entertainment, Culture and Heritage Awards have again highlighted a broad range of lifetime and creative achievements, recognising individuals and organisations whose work has contributed significantly to culture, heritage and public life in Canterbury and across the Commonwealth.

Now in their third year, the awards aim to address long-standing gaps in public recognition for excellence across disciplines including the arts, science, architecture and community preservation.

Among the 2025 recipients, Isla Charlotte-York was honoured for Lifetime Services to Cinema in Australasia, with the award presented at the Enfield Tavern in the township of Enfield, North Otago. In the international category, American photographer Craig Wright received the award for Best Undercover Documentary Photography Essay for his work, Trump After the Assassination Attempt, recognising its impact in the field of investigative visual journalism.

The Commonwealth Enfield Heritage and Culture Awards also recognised several New Zealand recipients for lifetime service. Chris Glasson NZILA was honoured for his contribution to Orton Bradley Park and to landscape architecture. Hugh Thorpe received an award for Lifetime Services to Hydrology, Groundwater Science and Water, including his work in the preservation of the Styx River. Julia and Anthony Holcroft were recognised for Lifetime Services to Classical Music, Culture and Literature through their involvement with NCAM and The Candle Trees. Jody and Moose of the Enfield Tavern were also honoured for preserving the venue as a cultural and historical icon.

Organisers said the awards continue to serve as an overdue tribute to under-recognised achievements, celebrating those whose work has helped shape the cultural, scientific and community fabric of Christchurch, Canterbury and the wider Commonwealth.
