Japanese star Miho Nakayama found dead at 54

Renowned Japanese actress and singer Miho Nakayama, 54, was found dead in her Tokyo home on Friday after failing to show up for work.

Paramedics confirmed her death at the scene, and while the cause is under investigation, she had recently cancelled a scheduled Christmas performance due to poor health.

Nakayama, who rose to fame as a J-pop idol in the 1980s and 90s, was best known for her acclaimed role in the 1995 film Love Letter, a box office hit that earned her several best actress awards.

In a statement her agency confirmed her passing, while fans mourned the loss of a beloved figure who left an indelible mark on Japanese pop culture.

Beyond her acting achievements, Nakayama’s influence extended internationally through Love Letter, which resonated with audiences worldwide. She is survived by her son, who resides with her ex-husband, musician Hitonari Tsuji.
