New Zealand actor David Peter “Rusty” Fitzgerald has died, marking the end of a career that spanned over three decades across local and international film productions.
Fondly remembered as a “guiding light” by longtime collaborators, Fitzgerald worked on major Hollywood titles including Avatar, King Kong, and The Hobbit, but is best known for his award-winning performance as Anandas the Monk in The Five Kingdoms, which earned him the Enfield Award for Best Actor.
From humble beginnings in short films at the University of Canterbury to cinematic adventures on the West Coast, Fitzgerald’s legacy will be celebrated through a series of tribute screenings featuring his early work.
“David was a guiding light for many years on all of our productions and he will be greatly missed,” a long-time colleague told DTNZ.
Ride on Dave Fitz – from the BMW R90 to the banned for life Electric Bike. Griklegrass Commune at Oxford needs that photo on the wall.
Fitzy was accident prone,. He made his own way….
Is there a funeral? Memorial?
Remember R.I.P Chris Small & R.I.P. Chris May, Paul Last, Ken Nicholl & even Williams died recently on the West Coast….?? all those bikers.
Really begs the question doesn’t it?
He had every single “upgrade” & his health just went down & down.
Everyone told him – don’t take another one….
He was an absolute Legend – David Bowie went to see him in hospital after his accident on the way to the concert. They found the QE2 Park Bowie Ticket 1978 in his pocket after he went through the front window. Someone told Bowie & he turned up at the hospital.
A year or so later a letter from Bowie in Switzerland turned up for Rusty! I think Bowie had written a poem for him.
RIP legend
