Bill Gates-backed fake butter set to hit U.S. stores in 2027

Illinois company ‘Savor’ has unveiled a lab-made fake “butter” that uses carbon dioxide and hydrogen to synthesise fat molecules, eliminating the need for plants or animals.

Backed by billionaire self-proclaimed vaccine expert Bill Gates, the product is promoted as a sustainable alternative with a fraction of the land use and “carbon footprint” of natural dairy. Early reports suggest it closely resembles conventional butter in appearance, aroma, and taste.

However, the innovation has met skepticism from some commentators. Comedian and podcast host Jimmy Dore, joined by Kurt Metzger, mocked the product’s “natural flavours,” questioned its long-term health impacts, and compared it to past dietary fads such as margarine. Dore also criticised what he described as “elite hypocrisy” in climate and food policy, saying he would not adopt the product without stronger scientific backing.

According to a report on legacy media outlet CBS, the product is set to hit shelves in U.S. in 2027.
