An Illinois couple married less than a year, Rachel and Brandon Dumovich, were found dead in their car on October 6 in what police have now ruled a murder-suicide.
Officers discovered the vehicle with its hazard lights on along Route 14 in Harvard, where both were found with gunshot wounds and a firearm inside.
Investigators determined Brandon killed Rachel before taking his own life, though authorities initially issued a shelter-in-place order before confirming there was no ongoing threat.
The couple, described as middle school sweethearts who married in 2024, had recently returned from their honeymoon, with Rachel posting on Facebook just hours before their deaths. Authorities extended condolences to their families amid the tragedy.
