South Korean footballer Hwang Ui-jo has been handed a one-year suspended jail sentence for illegally filming a sexual encounter with a woman, following a ruling by a Seoul court.
The 32-year-old Alanyaspor and national team player, suspended since 2023, pleaded guilty to filming two women without consent in 2022 but was convicted on charges related to one victim and acquitted for the other.
The case emerged after Hwang’s sister-in-law shared the videos on social media to blackmail him, for which she received a three-year prison sentence.
Despite Hwang’s remorse and the third-party posting of the videos, prosecutors pursued the charges, highlighting South Korea’s ongoing battle with hidden-camera crimes, which have caused widespread fear outrage.
Whoring around with a famous football player and then complaining?
Just another shameful gold-digger morphing into a “Me Too” grifter.
