The ACT Party has invoked the “agree to disagree” clause in its coalition agreement with National, citing dissatisfaction with the recent firearms registry review.

ACT MP Nicole McKee said the review failed to meet the coalition’s commitment to assess whether the registry improves public safety.

She criticised the analysis for lacking evidence, ignoring compliance and privacy concerns, and relying on speculative claims.

McKee also opposed an upcoming regulation requiring registry activation for ammunition purchases, arguing for a delay due to legal ambiguities and public mistrust.

Despite the disagreement, ACT and National continue to collaborate on rewriting the Arms Act.

  1. If Labour, Maori and Green Party over time have gone full woke Social Marxist / Communist Left, then National Party has also been dragged Center Left. No longer the party of true conservative values, National do not rescind the left agenda, but yield to their masters at the UN and WEF… it just happens faster under a Labour coalition.

  2. The fact is that they plan to push through the United Nations Small Arms Treaty by 2030. This is just all smoke and mirrors. Complete firearm ban is planned by 2030.
