Appeal for information following Whangārei hit and run

Police are seeking information from the public following a hit and run in Whangārei on Wednesday night.

Around 10.45pm, a vehicle was observed striking a pedestrian who was walking on the footpath of Ōtaika Road.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer, of Whangārei CIB, says Police are yet to locate the victim or the driver.

“Both the pedestrian and the driver left prior to Police arrival, but the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

“Police want to speak with the pedestrian and ensure their wellbeing.

“We are asking the driver to come forward and assist with our enquiries.”

The vehicle involved is a Grey Mitsubishi Outlander, registration number HDG380. A forensic examination of the vehicle, which was not being driven by its registered owner, is being undertaken.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses who saw the vehicle in the area prior to the incident, or those with relevant dashcam footage from around the time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police through 105 online or by phone, referencing file number 261105/1328.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
