In a pre-dawn altercation that unfolded outside Destiny Church in Wiri, South Auckland, the hoisting of a rainbow flag atop a Norfolk Pine has sparked a police investigation into an alleged assault.
According to a report in legacy media, the incident occurred around 4:20 am when a man was spotted hanging the rainbow flag on public property. An altercation ensued involving the man and two individuals from a nearby property on Druces Rd.
The incident comes in the wake of recent painting over of two rainbow crossings, one in Gisborne and the other on Auckland’s Karangahape Rd.
In a tweet this morning South Auckland resident Zane Wedding alleged that he was assaulted by members of Destiny Church after raising the pride flag on a Norfolk Pine ‘on property outside Destiny Church.’
Reports say Destiny Church members acknowledged removing the flag in the early hours, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
