Auckland detective investigated after objectionable material found on work devices

An ‘award-winning’ Auckland detective with more than 40 years’ service is under criminal investigation after bestiality and child sexual exploitation material was allegedly found on his work devices, one of 20 concerning cases uncovered during a nationwide audit following former deputy commissioner Jevon McSkimming’s downfall.

Six police staff have been suspended and three are under criminal investigation, with acting Deputy Commissioner Jill Rogers saying some may have had legitimate reasons for accessing certain material.

The revelations reported in legacy media today (paywalled) have further shaken morale and public confidence already dented by the McSkimming scandal, in which police failed to investigate sexual allegations made by a young woman and instead prosecuted her, only later discovering the senior officer had viewed extreme pornography for years.

A scathing IPCA report last week found police leadership prioritised McSkimming’s career over a vulnerable complainant, prompting new Police Commissioner Richard Chambers to apologise and the government to adopt all recommended reforms, including creating an Inspector-General to oversee police conduct.

  1. As I suspected
A culture within the Masonic police
McSkimming was just skimming the surface
The bulk of the iceberg lies below the surface

  2. The custodial class i.e. politicians, police etc., have become so detached from reality they think they are above everyone else and have forgotten they are there to serve the people who pay their wages.
