Auckland Council-appointed commissioners have approved a contentious helipad application by entrepreneur Anna Mowbray and former All Black Ali Williams, despite receiving 87% opposition in 1397 public submissions.
The consent limits flights to two per day and ten per month, with strict conditions on flight paths and hours to minimise noise and disruption.
Commissioners concluded that helicopter noise would not significantly impact residential amenity or sleep, though nearby residents and groups like Quiet Sky Waitematā and Hawke Sea Scouts expressed disappointment, warning the decision sets a concerning precedent for future urban helipads.
