The Department of Corrections says it carried out internal assurance checks after concerns were raised that staff members’ personal employment information may have been disclosed to state-funded media.
The review included verifying access to HR records and conducting IT searches to determine whether any private information had been improperly shared externally, with Corrections reporting that no evidence of unauthorised distribution was found.
The checks followed a series of RNZ reports involving separate allegations against five senior and prison-based staff members, including claims of bullying, harassment, leadership concerns and an allegation of sexual harassment.
Corrections stressed the work was not a formal investigation but was undertaken to reassure affected employees that their personal information had been handled appropriately and in line with privacy obligations.
Ersatz review that accomplishes noting. Pretty much sums up government and its various blunt instruments, in this country.
