Operation Matata has uncovered a network of corrupt baggage handlers at Auckland Airport allegedly working with multiple gangs, including the Head Hunters, Two Eight Brotherhood, and Crips, to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine and cocaine into New Zealand.
The “rip on, rip off” method saw illicit drugs packed in luggage loaded onto international flights, then discreetly removed before security screening. Since June, 15 baggage handlers have been arrested, with police seizing 631kg of meth and 112kg of cocaine.
The investigation revealed overlapping syndicates using the same airport insiders and intermediaries, with past cases like Operation Selena showing similar corruption involving gangs such as the King Cobras.
A report in legacy media (paywalled) confirmed that an independent advisory panel has warned that systemic corruption at ports and airports poses a growing threat to national security, urging stronger laws, tougher vetting, and harsher penalties as meth use in New Zealand reached record highs in 2024 despite record seizures.

That’s how gangsters roll. Par for the course.
Gangsters with white collars masquerading as “gangs”
Wonder if the Police are involved as was with the Corby case.
And yet, despite having a Masters Degree and 30+ years in the Aviation / Aerospace Industry, I can’t even get hired as a baggage handler…
Now I know why..!
& yes; Chappelle Corby was railroaded, and then prevented from writing a book about her experience.
Maybe she’ll go the same was as did Virginia Guiffre.
Note to Chappelle- get yourself a deadman’s (or…deadwoman’s) switch…similar to Russia’s Woodpecker / Dead Hand System.
When the staff were employees of AirNZ and full staff members who handled all flights at Auckland and before another company who use casual labour They were better vetted and this did not happen
