Costello heads to Pacific Crime Summit in Samoa and Fiji

Pacific Crime Summit 2026

Customs and Associate Police Minister Casey Costello is travelling to Samoa and Fiji this week as New Zealand steps up regional cooperation against transnational crime in the Pacific.

Costello is in Samoa today before attending the Pacific Transnational Crime Summit Minister’s meeting in Fiji tomorrow, a gathering jointly hosted by Fiji and Australia that brings together policing ministers from across the Pacific.

More than 15 countries are expected to attend the summit, which focuses on coordinated responses to organised crime and strengthening regional security partnerships.

Costello said the meeting was an important opportunity for New Zealand to deepen relationships that support Pacific resilience and help combat the growing threat posed by transnational criminal networks. During her visit to Samoa, she is also scheduled to meet Samoan Customs Minister Masinalupe Leatuavao Makesi Pisi and visit the Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre, Apia Port and Samoa’s detector dog unit.
