Diabetics warned of AI deepfake scam ads featuring fake NZ doctors

Diabetes news

People with Type 2 diabetes are being warned about fake online ads using deepfake videos of New Zealand doctors to promote unapproved treatments.

The New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes says AI-generated content is being used to mislead viewers into thinking real doctors endorse these scam products, with at least three known doctors targeted so far.

According to media reports some patients have already bought the false remedies, risking their health by potentially stopping prescribed medication. Officials urged anyone affected to consult their GP and report the scams to police.

  1. And genuine NZ doctors are beyond reproach
(or is it possible they’re way more dangerous to our health than the fake ones)
