DOJ urged to investigate Biden’s autopen and handling of Executive actions

Biden autopen news

A House Oversight Committee report has called for the Department of Justice to investigate former President Joe Biden’s alleged use of an autopen to authorise executive actions during his term.

The 100-page report claims White House aides concealed signs of Biden’s cognitive decline and argues that decisions signed via autopen may not have been made with his full awareness, suggesting such actions could be “void.” The committee also urged a full review of executive orders and pardons issued between 2021 and 2025.

The report further raised questions about Hunter Biden’s involvement in pardon discussions and criticised former White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor for refusing to answer questions on Biden’s health. It recommended that the D.C. Board of Medicine review O’Connor’s conduct. Biden’s allies dismissed the probe as politically motivated, insisting the former president made all key decisions himself.

  1. U.S. presidents have used it for DECADES to sign routine documents when unavailable, provided the action is authorized.
It’s legal if the president explicitly approves its use.
Allegedly Biden’s aides used the autopen to sign pardons and executive orders without his full awareness.
Over 4,000 pardons and commutations may be affected, including those for Dr. Anthony Fauci, General Mark Milley, and Biden’s own son, Hunter.
The House Oversight Committee claims this reflects a “flawed process” and possibly a cover-up of Biden’s cognitive decline, suggesting he was not fit to authorize these actions.
They’ve asked the Department of Justice to investigate and potentially void these actions—a move that would be unprecedented.
Presidential pardons are typically irreversible, but if proven unauthorized, they could be challenged.
The controversy raises questions about due process, executive authority, and the role of presidential aides.
Critics argue this is politically motivated, while supporters of the probe cite concerns about transparency and accountability.
