Ronnie O’Sullivan produced a superb display to defeat Shaun Murphy 5-3 at the World Open in Yushan, reaching the quarter-finals with a series of high breaks including 96, 77, 121, 89 and 76 after Murphy had briefly led following a 139 break.
The seven-time world champion’s victory marked his 150th ranking quarter-final and sets up a last-eight meeting with Ryan Day, who edged past Artemijs Zizins 5-4.
Meanwhile, Mark Allen advanced with a 5-0 win over Zhou Yuelong and will next face Wu Yize, who beat Kyren Wilson 5-2.
