Former National Party candidate Jake Bezzant and his NZ company Invisible Urban Charging are being sued by U.S. investor John Stapleton, who alleges he was misled into investing US$50,000 in what was represented as an electric vehicle charging business.
The civil lawsuit, filed in Georgia, claims securities fraud and other violations.
Bezzant, who co-founded the company in 2019, left politics after unrelated allegations of online impersonation emerged.
