Dozens of Facebook Marketplace listings in New Zealand openly promoted the sale of class A drugs such as psychedelic mushrooms, cannabis, and LSD, sparking concern over Meta’s failure to remove them despite repeated user reports.
Meta only acted to delete the illegal listings and initiate a review after legacy media made inquiries (paywalled).
A whistleblower who reported hundreds of ads claimed Meta ignored his concerns, even sanctioning him for selling a dartboard while allowing drug ads to remain, according to the legacy media report.
The New Zealand Drug Foundation criticised the platform, noting the irony that its own Health NZ-funded harm reduction ads are frequently flagged by Meta’s algorithms.
Meta says it’s now enforcing its policies more proactively and has removed numerous offending ads.
Well if drugs were made a medical issue instead of a criminal one there would be no issue.
😂😂😂
There’s always a snitch.
The fine Meta $6 Gazzion dollars.
