A major police and emergency response was triggered in Carterton today after a person was found in a vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound, leading to the closure of the town’s supermarket and sections of State Highway 2.
Two people have been taken into custody, and charges are under consideration.
Mayor Ron Mark reassured the community that the incident appeared targeted and posed no wider threat.
Police remain on the scene conducting examinations, while the New World supermarket remains closed until further notice.
