Graham Philip prison letter raises fears for his safety

Graham Philip news

Graham Philip is been held in custody since December 2021 on sabotage charges.

The letter dated 13 October 2022 says:

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all your thoughts, cash deposits and mail, for your protests for my liberty, for the t-shirts and everything you’ve done.

Thank you for coming to my court cases, for posting on the www about civil rights and my plight.

When I was captured I had no notion that anyone would remember me or think of me, so your support is very much appreciated.

Today I am not being threatened personally, although several senior guards are actively plotting and influencing the other staff to harm me. As a remand captive I can be sent to a very dangerous hi-security prison without warning. Due to this risk I depend on you to keep pressure on the jailers, so they know they are being watched by the world.

The top prison officials have told me that it is only my ‘high profile’ that protects me from the guards taking retribution.

Why would they take retribution? That’s a good question. You can probably figure it out.

Every single email and letter you have sent has blessed me.

Graham Philip

Philip’s next court appearance will be in 2023, with a trial expected to take place late in 2023. While his name is not suppressed, the details of the case have been subject to strict gag orders.

  1. There is always a unwritten understanding between hardened criminals and the security staff. Extra “justice” is often rendered to jailed rapists like prisoners by these privileged criminals. So the concern is well founded.

  2. NZ marched in their thousands to protest the release of Nelson Mandela. Yet here we have a uniquely NZ case of a man whose charges against him are not detailed as far as I am aware and yet he is accused of sabotage and by the time of his next court appearance will have been incarcerated for well over a year.

I was told by a lawyer some years ago that NZ does not have a Justice system. It only has a legal system. That NZ law has nothing to do with moral issues only legal ones.

So it is NZ’s legal system underpins the crimes our police, health and every ministry now commit on a daily basis. And people like Graham Phillip are a threat to their brittle and false narrative.

Again just a note to ourselves that the legal, police and prison services need dismantling at the same time NZ’s political farce is dismantled.

  3. Creeping Pinochet style authoritarianism, is coming to characterise New Zealand. Secret trials, a lack of transparency, facts suppressed from public oversight. Utterly chilling.
