Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a man at a central Hamilton address on Tuesday evening.

Emergency services were called to a property on Lake Crescent about 6.15pm after reports that a person had been seriously injured. When officers arrived, they found one man critically injured. He died at the scene a short time later.

Police also located a second person at the address suffering from a serious injury to their arm. That person was taken to Waikato Hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler said cordons remain in place while investigators work to establish what occurred, who was involved, and where those responsible may be.

A significant police presence is expected to remain in the area as enquiries continue. Residents have been advised there is no ongoing risk to the wider public.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
