No More Glyphosate NZ says consumers should not rely solely on food labels and marketing claims when assessing what is in the products they buy, arguing that independent laboratory testing provides evidence that labels alone cannot.
The group says modern food supply chains are complex and, while regulatory systems play an important role in protecting public health, they do not necessarily verify every claim relating to authenticity, country of origin or product composition.
It says its programme of testing everyday supermarket foods at an independent IANZ-accredited laboratory is designed to provide greater transparency, whether results detect glyphosate residues or find none at all.
Citing an Australian Four Corners investigation into food fraud and supply chain integrity, the organisation argues that independent testing by laboratories, researchers and consumer groups complements existing regulation and helps consumers make more informed purchasing decisions.
