Israel’s election deadlocked after highest turnout since 1999

A general election in Israel has left neither incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor his rival former military chief Gadi Eisenkot with a clear victory.

Recorded turnout of 77.7% was the highest since 1999. With more than 86% of votes counted, Netanyahu and his allies had 53 seats while the opposition had 48.

The deadlock could keep Netanyahu in power as caretaker Prime Minister during coalition talks.

Eisenkot warned Netanyahu, “Don’t dare use Israel’s security for your political needs,” after reports that Netanyahu was pushing for renewed attacks on Iran.

  1. Both sides are pretty awful but it would appear one is more cautious, because they don’t have the political baggage Satan brings with him.
