Kiwis urged to take action and oppose NZ–India FTA

Opposition to the proposed New Zealand–India free trade agreement is intensifying, with critics urging the public to take action ahead of its expected progression through Parliament.

The concerns follow comments from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who described the agreement as “an incredibly good deal” and said New Zealand had “nothing to worry about.” However, critics argue the benefits are overstated and unevenly distributed.

They point to shifting claims around tariff reductions, noting earlier statements referenced a 95 percent reduction, while more recent figures suggest around 50 percent initially, rising to 82 percent over time. By contrast, India is expected to receive full tariff elimination on its exports to New Zealand from the outset.

Opponents also raise concerns about the implementation timeline, with New Zealand’s tariff reductions reportedly taking up to a decade to fully materialise. Additional criticism centres on provisions allowing India to withdraw from the agreement within a defined period, as well as broader economic implications tied to investment flows and labour market pressures.

The proposed agreement is expected to receive its first reading in Parliament in mid-May, before being referred to a select committee for public submissions. If progressed, it could be passed into law later in the year with cross-party support.

Critics are now calling on New Zealanders to engage in the legislative process by making submissions to the select committee and raising awareness about the deal’s potential impacts.

“The FTA will go for its first reading in mid May, then to select committee and the earliest Nat/Act/Lab can pass it is late September”, wrote commentator 2ETEKA on X.

“We have time to push this dogshit deal which India even admitted at the signing will help leverage Indian migration to NZ, as they think we don’t have enough people.

“You can :

  • Make a submission,
  • Inform others of how terrible this deal is
  • Join NZ First and help stand against this lunacy. It’s only $10 to join the only party trying to stop this junk.”

  1. Luxon you and your party are history join the scum Labour Party both parties will be hammered in the next election good ridence you back stabbing barstards.

  2. Corpo Gov NZ ie THE Epstein Class, everything they do, there should be Referundums on, otherwise some would think the Corpo Govs from All Parties still work for the EC small hat, Ba,al hats, ie Epstein Class. What does it make them?

  3. It is times like this, I realise that New Zealand doesn’t have a democracy. Once every three years, we get to vote for people who they select.

The fact remains, New Zealand has become so regulated, so overwhelmingly taxed people have decided a better more comfortable life in Australia. Citizens have decided not to partake in paying off, Jacinda Ardern is massive 66 billion borrowing for only 5 million people. 30 billion unaccounted for.

Social engineering by greedily green eyed politicians redistribute wealth throughout the nation by creating all sorts of Mickey Mouse policies driven by race, gender and green ideology. Nutcase ideas like 30 plus genders.

Family law requiring the redistribution of wealth to someone who did nothing to create it. Who wants to get into a relationship an live with that time bombshell hanging over their head for life? Result is NZ’s birthrate is far below replacement.

Tenant regulations creating unnecessary rules , requiring extra wealth redistribution called compensation.

Off the charts, taxation. GST, levies, PAYE, road user, exercise tax, rates, water rates. Just so many other names make this country an unaffordable place to be. Click on paying tax from your bank and see the endless tax codes.

What a complete shambles New Zealand has become. Unworkable, unaffordable, corrupt, politically, unaccountable wasteful nation. Why was Ardern knighted for the crap she left us in?

Why isn’t Ardern on charges for fraud, corruption and genocide? Can’t believe people want crybaby Hipkins to rule them again. To physically assault them and their children while they sleep. He should be locked up.

      • NZ Loyal is a farce.

Their leaders support the Aussie cartels causing Kiwis life ruining, cost of living disaster.

All current credible NZ political parties are beset with populace robbing, self enriching crooks!

NZ needs honest business people and academics to step up a new centre right party with good old Kiwi values.

Before NZ follows the “impoverished by corrupt politicians” UK

    • What we see masquerading as a democratic government in New Zealand is a company, that being the New Zealand Company, originating in the Parliament of Great Britain in 1840 under Edward the Confessor’s Crown of the Plantagenet Dynasty (Roman Catholic). It is and always has been a company of the Church’s military orders. They are in no way, shape or form part of the constitutional authority of this country, as they removed their constitution in 1986, claiming capacity and rights to do what they like. The Constitution Act 1986 repealed the Constitution Act 1852 cutting off all constitutional authority of the New Zealand Company Parliament/NSW Parliament. This overrode the 1947 Statute of Westminster Adoption Act which determined that the Constitution Act 1852 could not be repealed. We have an out of control, unconstitutional government which is enforcing unconstitutional laws onto we the people.

  4. IF this passes Parliament despite the public outcry, petitions against this agreement, lack of the media refusing to address the public’s concern and demands that this NOT be ratified in Parliament, then…don’t worry!
IF YOU VOTE FOR THE NEW ZEALAND LOYAL PARTY, THIS FTA WILL BE RESCINDED, CANCELLED, AND THOSE WHO PASSED THIS IN PARLIAMENT WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR IGNORING THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE PUBLIC NOT TO ADOPT THIS WEF-BASED FTA!!!!!!!!!

  5. Labor/Greens/National/ACT & Māori parties are not working in the interests of NZ. Just like the Democrat party in U.S.
I think they are following the UN agenda 2030 and or a communist global agenda.
Either way they are destroying NZ on purpose.
    What to do.?

  6. Freedom parties need to join together under one umbrella then we can do some damage but as it stands the same old same old will continue to cause this country havoc! Come on think about, you all have a common goal I just don’t get it – everyone has differences we are all adults not children!

  7. Need to hear what economists & businesses think as well as others more qualified before we throw the baby out with the bath water..I do have an issue with us having to give 0 tariffs that ain’t good.Immigration is another land mine & a dam big one

  8. Expect an influx of cheap imported labour. What this will mean for our infrastructure, especially healthcare, should be obvious. National, ACT and Labour should be consigned to the political waste bin in my estimation. I have voted ACT in the past, never ever again after this.

BTW India rates around 80, NZ 35 (I think) and Australia 15 on RT News social index which looks at things like crime, education, births etc. Many will come, get NZ citizenship and jump the ditch until AU locks us all out.

  9. Having just watched a video of the tragic disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the cause of which was identified as a communication failure, this whole fiasco would appear to be similarly constructed. Some things just don’t translate in equivalent terms and when there is a huge cultural chasm to augment the already unstable situation we do, indeed, have a recipe. Earhart had no dedicated radio operator and the American troop ship waiting for her to land and refuel simply could not contact her. Luxon has no backing from his co-leaders and is cheered on by Hipkins. Would you eat that butter chicken?

  10. Mass immigration benefits no one except those wishing to profit from it.

My youngest son is 21. All his uni mates struggled to get jobs in the holidays because most cafes and restaurants are now owned by Indians and they only employ their own. Luckily my son has a job for a company he has worked part time for for 5 years.
