Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese are advancing plans for a joint New Zealand–Australia digital identification system, a move critics say will erode New Zealand’s sovereignty and citizen privacy.
The proposal, which began under Jacinda Ardern’s leadership with the aim of removing passport requirements for travel between the two countries, has expanded into a broader agenda involving shared regulatory alignment, a single economic market, and “net-zero” targets.
According to the leaders’ recent joint statement, both nations will work together to harmonise regulatory systems, roll out Digital ID technology, and deepen economic integration.
Supporters argue the initiative will streamline cross-border processes and enhance efficiency. However, opponents warn it will bind New Zealand to Australian technology, policies, and data-sharing arrangements, reducing the country’s control over its privacy and security frameworks.

Critics also fear the system could become a tool for surveillance and censorship, pointing to Australia’s existing Chinese-style digital ID and online age-verification policies. They argue that relying on a shared infrastructure risks locking New Zealand into decisions made in Canberra, undermining its ability to act independently on sensitive national matters.

Find a lawyer who can do a bit of pro-bono work in behalf of all New Zealanders, and give a declaration to the Gov-Gen that we can no longer tolerate this government for the reasons listed, and demand that Parliament be immediately dissolved and snap elections held within 7 calender days.
The New Zealand Loyal Party will NOT tolerate ‘Digital ID’s, smart meters, road tracking, or the FBI / CIA / MOSSAD on New Zealand soil, based on the confirmed histories of election interference, assassinations, subversion, subterfuge and espionage by those organisations!
I don’t know what the O&FP, along with the ‘New’ (Old) Conservatives have announced to stop this Zio-Global take-over of New Zealand, as I have yet to read anything in their policies to counter this very real threat to sovereignty
