Man in critical condition after assault in central Wellington; police appeal for witnesses

Police are seeking information following a violent assault in Central Wellington overnight that has left a man in critical condition.

Emergency services were called to Courtenay Place, near the old Reading Cinema, at around 3:20 am, where they found the injured man.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Initial investigations suggest the man was assaulted, and one individual is currently assisting police with inquiries.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about those involved to come forward.
