Northland man Neville Thomson was mauled to death by 23 dogs at his Panguru property in August 2022 while on the phone with his partner, who heard the attack unfold before the line went silent.
The dogs, belonging to boarder Abel Wira, had a history of aggression, including biting neighbours and livestock, and were often locked inside vehicles or barricaded in a caravan.
Wira, 61, is now on trial in the High Court at Whangārei for manslaughter and owning a dog that caused death, with the Crown arguing his failure to control the animals led directly to Thomson’s death.
The defence maintains the fatal attack was a tragic accident. The trial is expected to run for two weeks.
Wtf? Who has 23 dogs? Couldn’t believe this was in nz……hope this guy goes to jail..preventable tragedy.
Have to wonder what or how he’s feeding them all, eh.
Make an example of this murderer there are too many aggressive dogs roaming around they are viewed as a weapon by their owners.
I am guessing a woke judge will say he is a victim of colonization and give him an ankle bracelet for a few months which says to others keep doing it.
You have to wonder what the leaders of this country want NZ to become.
If they want us to descend into kayos they must be very proud of their achievements.
Great comment.
One has to really wonder about our representatives’ intentions.
I am a dog lover, but i hope the pack was put down.
They always attack in pack
That is a horrific way to go, very upsetting. If there was ever a case for the SPCA to be involved in.
Dogs, like kids, turn out how you parent them.
That’s a very bad way to go. I know myself how painful a dog bite is.
