New Drury and Paerātā stations open as Auckland rail network expands

Two new railway stations at Drury and Paerātā have officially opened ahead of passenger services beginning tomorrow, with weekday peak trains set to operate every 10 minutes as part of Auckland’s expanding rail network.

The stations, which will serve Drury, Paerātā, Franklin and South Auckland, each feature two platforms, around 350 car parks and integrated bus connections. Rail Minister Winston Peters said the project reflected long-term investment in rail infrastructure to support the region’s projected population growth of 130,000 people, arguing transport infrastructure should be delivered ahead of development rather than after it.

Transport Minister Chris Bishop said the stations form part of the Government’s $2.4 billion investment in Auckland’s rail system, which also includes the completed Auckland Rail Network Rebuild, the electrification of the line to Pukekohe, the opening of the Third Main Line to separate freight and passenger services, ongoing level crossing upgrades, and the planned opening of the Ngākōroa station in 2027.

He said the improvements were intended to increase train reliability, support housing and business growth, and prepare the network for the upcoming opening of the City Rail Link.
