New twist in ‘Gus the Groper’ saga

A 26-year-old New Zealander was fined NZ$859 (A$800) for killing a blue groper, believed to be a beloved local marine celebrity named Gus, in Sydney.

The fish was known for its friendliness, often swimming alongside divers off Cronulla’s coast. Killing blue gropers is illegal in New South Wales, with penalties up to A$22,000 or six months in jail.

The man, not publicly identified, reportedly showed remorse when confronted by fishery officers but was booed by beach-goers as he tried to put the fish’s body in a supermarket bag. Natalie Williamson, a local woman, called the police, noting that the fisherman didn’t seem sorry at the time and was defensive when confronted by locals.

Photos of the man holding the groper were widely shared on social media, sparking outrage. The New South Wales Animal Justice Party started an online petition, criticizing the A$800 fine as inadequate and demanding justice and protection for gropers.

Gus, being used to human interaction, might have approached his killer expecting a friendly interaction, sources said.

A NSW Department of Primary Industries spokesman said the fisherman regretted his actions and was given educational material on spearfishing rules, as this was his first offense.

However, wildlife documentary maker David Ireland claimed the killed fish wasn’t Gus, who he personally knew and had befriended in the 1980s. He described Gus as bigger with a distinctive scar, suggesting the killed fish might be one of Gus’ offspring. Ireland criticised the spearfisherman’s actions, noting the lack of ‘sport’ in killing a friendly groper.

Locals have proposed naming the area where the groper was killed “Gus Reserve” as a tribute.

  1. Was the ‘fisherman’ an immigrant?
    …sure looks like it!
Probably just helped himself with no conscience thought of whether or not it was legal to take the Bluey.

  2. I predict that as part of the population reduction under the WEF / NWO / WHO, ALL species of fish and edible sea food will be declared as ‘endangered’ so as to thwart the populations from gathering the same while threatening insane fines for doing so when hyper inflation continues without price caps with retail food suppliers, distributors and super markets!
Watch for the 1080 dispersals to increase also, contaminating the wild game making it unedible.
What will be most criminal is for the NZ Government (under the control of the Talmudic Zio-Communist Government) contracts aerial spray companies to spot and spray local vegetable gardens in community fields, back yards, etc. under the banner of an ‘invasive insect species’.
The Auckland region has already seen that with the moths, bark beetles, etc. 4 or so years ago…
BTW- Hal Turner is reporting EM Radiation aimed north (coinciding with Taiwan’s elections…) is in effect with NOTAMs, advising aircraft to avoid the north end of Kwajalein Atoll.
Fact is, Kwaj has increased the radar power to monitor China’s reaction to the Taiwanese elections, ie detection of missiles, cruise missiles, sea invasion and tactical air strikes!
The world just keeps getting more & more f@#ked-up…!
