New Zealand and Japan sign new defence agreements

New Zealand and Japan have signed two new agreements aimed at strengthening defence cooperation and information sharing between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters and Defence Minister Judith Collins confirmed the arrangements following meetings in Tokyo.

One of the agreements, the Defence Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement, establishes how logistical support will be provided when the New Zealand Defence Force and Japan’s Self-Defence Forces operate together.

This includes practical cooperation such as refuelling at sea, the sharing of supplies, and support during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. Defence Minister Judith Collins said the deal would allow for smoother joint operations and build on the strong working relationship already in place between the two forces.

The second agreement, an Information Security Agreement, sets out a legal framework for the secure handling and exchange of classified information. Winston Peters said the deal would enable deeper and safer information sharing, describing Japan as a key strategic partner. Both ministers said the agreements reflect a shared commitment to regional security, stability and the international rules-based order.

  1. I’m sure China will view this in a positive light.
China is likely to view growing Japan-New Zealand military cooperation with suspicion and concern, interpreting it as part of a broader regional trend of countries aligning more closely to balance China’s influence.
China sees Japan’s expanding security role as aimed at countering Beijing.
NZ–Japan cooperation fits into a network of partnerships China dislikes.
China is sensitive to military activity in the Pacific.
NZ’s traditionally cautious stance makes this more noticeable.
China will likely view Japan–NZ military cooperation as Part of Japan’s broader Indo‑Pacific security activism and a challenge to China’s growing presence in the Pacific.
A sign that even traditionally neutral NZ is edging closer to US‑aligned partners.

  2. I’m not that keen seeing my beloved sons going to war. I did not have them to be placed in harm’s way.
To torn apart. There is no glory in battle. The reward is land with its resources for the super rich.

And to be frank, men have not been treated that nicely over the decades. Largely ignored.

The provocation, here is NATO trying to place weapons of mass destruction on Russia’s doorstep. The very same move Russia pulled in the 1960’s with Cuba.

Thinking how the EU has and still is treating its citizens of late. How the unelected EU, the UN, WEF and WHO has been ignoring the people over the recent period. Now they want our boys to die defending such regimes.

Deescalation is the key to a safer world. Greedy globalists isn’t working that well for us.

    • Armed Neutrality for New Zealand, with EVERY NZ Citizen / Permanent Resident ARMED and TRAINED in the NZDF above the age of 18-65!
Think…’Switzerland of the Pacific’…& while others conduct war, we’ll conduct business via Free Trade Agreements with Pacific Nations, China and Russia!
Entering into a defence pact w/ Japan- does this mean a lower costs on Mazdas, Toyotas, Hondas, etc. exempt from tariffs, duties, etc?
7 Chinese warships to NZ’s 1 in the Tasman Sea…recent Chinese Naval exercises in the Tas…
NZ needs to get OUT out of the Noahide / Talmudic Order & coming ‘Reset / Agenda 2030’ that enslaves us all to the Globalist Small Hatters & Haters!
      WE WILL NOT COMPLY!!!

    • “The provocation, here is NATO trying to place weapons of mass destruction on Russia’s doorstep. The very same move Russia pulled in the 1960’s with Cuba”.

This is a common misconception. The U.S. deployed Jupiter intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) in Turkey in 1959 triggering Khrushchev to order the deployment of similar nuclear missiles in 1962.

That part of the crisis was covered up by mutual agreement allowing the U.S to quietly remove their missiles from Turkey six months later without officially admitting they were ever there.

      Good comment though.

  3. War is a racket
    A cycle
    Harms way?
Where does that leave doctors who sold out during covid including politicians who betrayed the very people who elected them into office to represent them and act in their best interests?
Politicians have been lying to people for thousands of years
But now everything is becoming patently obvious

  4. I’m sure our massive trading partner China, wont be offended, by this idiocy, right? As per usual the quisling globalists here are sucking up to the economically defunct old Yanks via their increasing vocal, war mongering Japanese proxy. All in a vain attempt to try to secure regional dominance they have already lost, to China.

Of course, this nonsense will cost the NZ taxpayer yet more money that would have better been spent back home. National need to be shown the door next year or at the very least lose their stranglehold on government. So if you can’t vote for any new party try one of the other mainstream parties instead. Lets see National fall below 10% support! Or better still 5%!!!
