New Zealand First has announced plans to establish a Special Economic Zone at Marsden Point, centred around the former oil refinery site and Northport, as part of a broader strategy aimed at boosting exports, economic growth and national security.
The party said the proposed zone would focus heavily on energy generation and distribution, maritime industries and ship servicing, including the development of a new dry dock intended to attract vessel repair work from both New Zealand and overseas operators.
Under the proposal, businesses operating within the zone would receive relief from planning regulations and processes under the Resource Management Act. Instead of dealing with local and regional councils, the Department of Conservation and other regulatory bodies, approvals and consent decisions would be handled by a government-appointed expert panel.
NZ First said the panel would assess projects based on whether they contributed to economic growth and supported the strategic objectives of the zone.
The party also indicated it was considering additional measures to encourage investment, including changes to the Overseas Investment Act to make it easier for foreign capital to enter the zone while maintaining protections around national ownership and security interests.
Potential incentives under consideration include rates rebates, reductions in levies, investment support measures and targeted company tax reductions for qualifying developments.
The proposed Special Economic Zone would sit alongside a series of major infrastructure projects planned for Northland, including the dry dock development, the proposed Northland Expressway and a rail link connecting Marsden Point north to Ōtīria and south to Auckland.
Shut up NZ1. YOU are part of what will happen in the next few weeks.
Instead of selling vote-buying, warn the People of what YOU as perpetual kingmaker are responsible for.
Yes, exactly forget the hogwash where is the new state of the art new oil refinery ? ? ? ? ? All current Politicians need to be put to the kerb at the next election they have all gone way past their use by date. They have all had their go and they have all failed.
Re-start the refinery, and add additional oil storage in Whangarei and Lyttelton for tactical and strategic reasons!

Only 27 combined signatures, but thousands of signatures demanding the removal of the Iranian Ambassador….there couldn’t be A.I. or outright WEF / Climate Change governmental insider tampering, could there?
Despite the fact that Hydrocen Fuels are finally coming on-line, as well as lower carbon LPG / LNG, NZ still needs oil for manufacturing processes ie paints, plastics, pharmaceutical & cosmetic products, etc.
