NZ First Leader Winston Peters has accused ACT Leader David Seymour of putting his own electoral seat ahead of a centre-right government, calling Seymour’s position on strategic voting “breathtaking stuff”.
On Sunday, Seymour said that people had “overegged how many electorates National can win,” and questioned if the overhang voting strategy would work.
He also described the Opportunities Party’s policies as “insane,” warning its proposed land tax would hurt rural New Zealand.
Peters later accused both ACT and National of discouraging voters from switching their electorate votes, saying the right was making “suicidal” decisions that could hand the left an advantage. He said common sense needed to prevail before the election.
