The family of Tom Phillips, who was fatally shot by police this week after years on the run with his three children, has condemned a documentary being filmed about the case.
Phillips’ sister Rozzi told state-funded legacy media the family was “disturbed” by attempts to profit from their tragedy and stressed that the children’s privacy must be protected, while their mother Cat rejected giving any consent to the project, calling for privacy and healing.
Police confirmed NHNZ Productions has been filming their Operation Curly team under strict agreements, with final say over content and broadcast timing, but emphasised they only approved police participation, not the inclusion of the children or family.

It was the entire point of ALL of this. They wanted an example to hold up to the rest of us for the next time there’s a vaccine mandate or a new online censorship law or heaven forbid we start putting up NZ flags like the Brits are doing. That documentary IS coming out one way or another, whether the family consent or not.
Phillips outsmarted the police every step of the way. Except for unwittingly riding into an ambush he made them look like real fools… for 4 years. No doubt this “documentary” will create the narrative the police say they have the final say in creating.
And like a cheap book re-litigating the past, I’m sure this docco will be as popular as Jacinda Ardern’s autobiography. A certain public relations disaster.
