An arrest of a teenager yesterday, filmed by a passerby, has split opinion as to whether the force used was justified.
According to the police Twitter account, officers were called to a Queen Street address after reports a security guard was being attacked by up to 12 youths. When they arrived the alleged offenders had fled, but a tip-off said several members of group were in Britomart.

Opinion was split on whether the force used was excessive.
‘Watch the full video. Tells a different story, little shits need to be taught a lesson. Don’t shoplift. Not rocket science,’ said one user.
‘Easy. Don’t steal, fight, assault people and damage property. Not that difficult really is [it]. Next time I suggest you get the full story before posting dramatic garbage,’ said another.
However, the user who uploaded the video, @clumpassion tweeted, ‘I saw all of their interaction. The violence was excessive and needless. The police started this interaction, they escalated it.’
Our taxes hard at work.
