Police are continuing enquiries into a violent disorder incident in Mt Albert after a large gathering descended into chaos on Friday night, leaving multiple people injured, including at least one person seriously.
Emergency services were called to Phyllis Street around 9.50pm following reports of a large disorder event involving young people. Police said early information indicates a vehicle may have been driven toward a group of partygoers, while the situation escalated into wider violence.
Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Darvill said the behaviour displayed was unacceptable and would not be tolerated. “This behaviour won’t be tolerated in our community, and investigators are working diligently to identify those responsible and hold them to account for their actions.”
Multiple emergency crews attended the scene, treating several injured people, with some transported to hospital in serious and moderate conditions. One young person remains in hospital following surgery.
Police said the incident appears to be isolated but acknowledged community concern. “I want to reassure people that we are working as hard as we can to get to the bottom of what happened,” Darvill said.
Investigators are now appealing for anyone with information, including cellphone footage, to come forward as they work to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
