Political and diplomatic figures press Luxon to re-balance China policy amid closer US defence ties

China - NZ news

A group of former NZ political leaders, including Helen Clark, Sir Geoffrey Palmer, Don Brash, and Sir David Carter, have publicly urged PM Christopher Luxon to reaffirm New Zealand’s commitment to its strategic partnership with China, warning that closer defence ties with the United States—especially through the AUKUS pact—risk alienating Beijing.

In an open letter published as a paid newspaper ad in legacy media publications, they expressed concern over military cooperation, naval deployments, and diplomatic rhetoric they say positions New Zealand as a U.S. ally against China.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters dismissed their concerns as outdated and said New Zealand maintains an “independent foreign policy”.

Yeah right Peters. As dictated by the City of London, a foreign corporate entity.

  2. NZ should withdraw from 5 eyes, the US is a Jew rat nest, and the EU is building a Woke Empire; we need to be part of neither.

  3. It would be silly to support dumb yanks who were defeated by the Houthi https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/middle-east/artc-report-houthis-shattered-perceived-us-naval-supremacy

The dumb yanks wasted over $1.5billion in their war crimes against Yemen with the excuse that they were protecting Red Sea shipping but the Red Sea remains closed while the dumb yanks confirm that they remain war criminals https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/05/business/red-sea-houthis-shipping.html
