Record number of top NZ school leavers heading overseas

Education news

A record number of New Zealand’s highest-achieving school leavers are heading overseas after finishing school, according to an Education Ministry report.

In 2023, six percent of the top 10 percent of NCEA achievers were overseas the following year, along with 12 percent of international qualification holders and 10 percent from private schools—the highest levels in 15 years. The trend reflects a broader increase in New Zealanders going abroad, but high achievers and those from affluent backgrounds are more likely to leave. The report could not determine how many students had enrolled in foreign universities, nor the exact reasons for their decisions, though it cited possibilities such as perceived quality differences, global exposure, or changing norms among wealthier families.

About 11 percent of school leavers have long studied overseas, with recent spikes possibly due to “post-pandemic” factors. Some students cited broader opportunities, cultural exposure, and international recognition as key motivators.

  1. Each person who leaves does not,

    Buy goods and services here.
    Does not pay tax here.
    Does not pay GST here.
Does not have a familly here.

For most business owners, the situation is survial mode. Far to much regulation, interest needs to be no more than 3%. Local authority rates are taking far to much out of the economy. That needs restructuring.

Luxon refuses to break apart the food distribution cartel.

Immigration is it an all time low.

Luxon wants to get his books in order at a pace that can not be achieved. He forgets people have a choice. People do not want to drink poison, people do not want to be injected again and people do not want GE. These are simple things to fix. His ideas do not align with th evast majority and the deal Luxon provides is unworkable.

You are not running an airline for profit now Luxon, you are governing so citizens can make a profit. Currently they are making very little, nothing or huge losses. If we the people and business owners can make a profit, we will start paying tax again.

If you dont have the ability or knowledge to do the job, stand down. Simion Brown with the help of practical experienced economists is my choice.

One last thing. Destroy the family court before the family court destroys this nation. Property right are for those who paid for them and not for some slag who provides sexual services for three summers. Some families might need help, but not destruction.

    • Hi God, you’ve got it completely wrong. I and several others like me
      – left our families behind in NZ when we left on our OE right after finishing school
      – loved buying NZ-made products when overseas just to remind us of home (like NZ butter even though it cost more over there!!)
      – paid tax and GST here when we returned to work here

Why are you so ignorant and prejudiced?

      • I am not prejudiced, nor do I articulate the meaning of ignorant. Prejudice means someone who does not like a person because of colour, race, sexual preference(s) or gender. (there is only 2)

Pointing out facts makes me the complete opposite to ignorant. I am Intellectual, knowledgeable, wise and competent. Let me impart some of that knowledge and experience.

There are 1,700 properties for rent in Wellington city zone limits. That does not count Porirua and the Hutt Valley. If you add those, it is 2,469 dwellings for rent. That figure should be around 550 at this time of year.

It is not prejudice to point out the obvious fact which is people are not allowing partners to move in. It is simply a way of protecting themselves from being financially assaulted from someone who decided to live out their youthful years on a working holiday.

If there was a government form to protect the property owner from risk, NZ would not need so many dwellings nor the infrastructure like roads, electricity, gas, public transport and everything else that supports it.

        God likes you.

        • It remains prejudiced and ignorant for you to claim that people who leave NZ don’t pay tax here nor have family here.

Try discovering the 9th commandment which tells us not to bear false witness against our neighbour. Try discovering the book of Proverbs which invites you to get wisdom.

          Because God likes you too.

          • Struggling to comprehend NZ citizens pay tax in NZ when they have sold up, live and work in Australia.

Equally confused about family members of the people who remain in NZ pay tax here. Of course they do. But only if they earn their income.

Even more confused about claiming I was bearing false witness.

The fact of the matter remains. Unless there is a strategy to replace money with social credit, this country can not economically survive without a balanced number of consumers for housing, products and services.

Just checking. Are you a young person who was tricked into believing you were one of the 72 genders? Had 5 MRNA injections? Hows that working for you?

            https://www.medicinenet.com/what_are_the_72_other_genders/article.htm

It’s not too late to repent.

  2. How about normal parents who object to the radicalization of tertiary sector that is glorifying sexual confusion, white guilt and Maori wonderfulness. We left during Arden’s era. It was hard but our kids deserve to be removed from the mental psych ops that is NZ Education

  3. It amazes me that God above and others expect Luxon to fix issues and problems. He will not. He is an out and out Globalist WEF Puppet. Not much different from Jacinda. I note how he was very subtle in stoking division as they all do – by fronting on Social media wishing all the Muslims happy eid Ramadan and vowing to stand in solidarity with them and the 2 Billion Muslims around the world.
Come Easter – the Holiest and most sacred of the Christian Calendar – and the man who calls himself a Christian was – silent /absent and missing.
Tells you all you need to know about nood nut Luxinda…!!!

  4. NZ has fast become a place of excruciating socialist and corporate mediocrity, worshipping at the globalist altar of division, exclusion and inequality, rejoicing around mindless ESG scores, virtue signalling at every opportunity and creating and producing less wealth while printing worthless fiat money and jabbing everything and everyone out of existence eventual existence, all prodigiously lubricated by the mindless invertebrates at the MSM and RNZ/TVNZ.
